Student Viewpoints back to top
This unprecedented project not only improved students' ability, but also stimulated their creativity and cooperation . After finishing the website, students shared their feelings about this fresh experience.
A project can't be finished successfully without each member's creative ideas and diligent cooperation: ¡°All members played an important role within their teams and they applied their potential during the project,¡± said Jessica , who worked on the International Visitors page.
Preparation and research play an important role in building any website . Most members collected information from a variety of online resources, including the SUST Chinese language website .
Jenny , who worked on the Admissions page, learned more about SUST ¡ª the place she has spent the past three years ¡ª as she researched other universities and admissions processes. She also came to appreciate diversity and culture as she researched distinct website designs of well-known universities all over the world.
September ( Student Testimonials ) found it interesting to conduct primary research as she interviewed other students about their opinions about SUST, and Ariel ( Campus Details ) appreciated the importance of website design as she collected insight from other universities in China and abroad.
Many students had fun with translation as they collected information from the Chinese SUST website and worked to interpret the information accurately and professionally.
Kevin , who worked on the Research page, said that scientific and technological translation is challenging because he is not familiar with all the technical terms used for scientific research and equipment.
Jolly ( Academics ) agreed with Kevin as she found it difficult to vividly translate some academic and scientific terms from other colleges and departments.
Even though translation was a difficult task, they found it interesting especially when they successfully translated complex and technical words.

Skype Session with an American Web Consultant
In March 2010, students talked with Brian Plante, an American website consultant, via Skype for a Q & A session about web development basics . Brian introduced three key web principles to the students:
Always keep the audience in mind
Images help visualize written content.
Websites should be function-oriented (not form-oriented)
This was the first time students used Skype in a classroom environment, and they learned more about effective virtual communication as well as web development.
Meetings with the OICE
This website has been designed for a large audience in and out of China . Therefore, getting accurate information about a wide variety of topics including foreign student enrollment, foreign teacher positions, and scientific research was important.
Small groups of students met with the OICE in order get more detailed information about several website topics.
