Basic Question and Information

Q: When was SUST founded?

A: SUST was found in 1958 in Beijing where it was first named the Peking Institute of Light Industry. The Institute was moved to Xianyang, Shaanxi Province in 1970 when it was renamed the Northwest Institute of Light Industry. In 2002, the University obtained its present name: Shaanxi University of Science & Technology and, finally, in 2005 relocated to Xi'an .

A: SUST has 926 employed teachers and 335 professors, including 549 teachers with master's or doctoral degrees.

Q: When do the fall and spring terms begin? What are the term dates for the next academic year?

A: The academic year is approximately 10 months including a winter holiday in January and February. The fall term runs from September to January the spring term runs from February or March to July.

Q: How to get to SUST from different parts of Xi'an ?

From the Xi'an/Xianyang International airport to SUST

Taxi: about 30 minutes (80-100 RMB)
Airport Express Bus: to the Melody Hotel in downtown Xi'an about 45 minutes (25 RMB), then Bus 336 at Xihua Men Bus Stop (a 15 minute walk north of the Melody Hotel) to SUST about 60 minutes (1.5 RMB)

From Xi'an Railway Station to SUST

Taxi: about 40 minutes (30-40 RMB)
Bus 719: east of the Railway Station about 60 minutes (3 RMB)

From Downtown Xi'an (near the Bell Tower ) to SUST
