Library

Built in 2008, the new SUST Library (Fuhui Library) imitates the architectural style of the Colosseum, and forms a six-floor structure utilizing 29,720 square meters, four times that of a standard football field. The Library expresses the Chinese concept of harmony with its combination of circular and square elements, which connect with the well-known Yin and Yang philosophy.

Collections

The SUST Library provides open, on-line access to a growing number of subject-specific collections, including:
1.3 million articles about literature, advanced technology and science
1,090 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals
650,000 electronic books
20 Chinese and foreign language network databases
10 special SUST-built databases

Library Services

The library building is open seven days a week from 8 a .m. to 10 p.m. and library services are available Monday-Saturday 8 a .m. to 6 p.m. Services include references, circulation, computer labs, on-line renewal, book recommendations, downloading resources, self-study rooms, and a convenience store that sells snacks, drinks and stationery.

In addition to general services, the Library provides international online information retrieval, e-resource research, inter-library book check-out, online consultation, updated information search, user training, audio recording, document duplication and book binding, and multimedia viewing.

Achievements

Since its inception, the Library has been undergoing great changes in its resource structure, and has paid attention to acquiring diverse resources, including academic e-resources and secondary documents covering all disciplines at the University.

The National and Regional Joint Catalog Project, which maintains a document sharing network

The Library won “The Golden Award of Excellent Libraries” sponsored by China Post Press in 2009.

In & Around the Library

The Library may be the most noticeable landmark at SUST. It is surrounded by a winding lake with gold fish and a green space with grass and tress. Three wide stone bridges, together with a variety of flowers, beautify the Library's surroundings.

Inside the Library, readers can swim in a sea of knowledge with its abundant collection of resources. The interior of the Library is a quiet and enjoyable place for study. Advanced equipment, potted green plants and comfortable sofas all add to the academic atmosphere.
